We now unlock and remap compatible Bosch MG1 and MD1 engine control units on newer BMWs directly in our workshop. The service includes many vehicles built in 2022, 2023 and 2024. For owners, this creates a simpler route to chip tuning, without sending the ECU abroad and waiting for its return.
Expanded access to protected control units allows us to bring unlocking, individual calibration and testing together in one workshop. We manage the work from the initial vehicle assessment through to completion, and you can discuss every aspect of the tuning directly with our team.
What changes for BMW owners
Security features in modern engine control units have long made programming more difficult. For certain vehicles, preparing a remap required a separate unlocking procedure that involved sending the ECU to another country. This added shipping costs and delays before calibration could begin.
We can now carry out that procedure in our workshop on supported Bosch MG1 and MD1 units. New programming protocols have expanded access to modern BMW electronics, so we can prepare and calibrate the ECU without international shipping.
From ECU unlock to individual calibration
Unlocking provides the access needed to program the ECU. The next stage, chip tuning, changes the engine calibration for the specific vehicle. These are two connected parts of the work: we first gain access to the unit, then develop the calibration around the technical configuration and the project's objective.
We consider the engine, transmission, existing modifications and overall vehicle condition when preparing a remap. A car in factory specification and one with a modified intake, exhaust or turbocharger require different solutions. Our calibration therefore reflects the individual vehicle and its technical capabilities.
We verify the result on our own dyno
Custom calibration should deliver a measurable result. We test our settings on our own dyno, measure power and torque and assess how the engine operates under load. This allows us to compare the outcome with the project's objective and examine the vehicle's behaviour after the changes.
We carry out Stage 1, Stage 2 and more extensive performance projects. We tailor the work to the vehicle's configuration and the owner's objectives. Unlocking compatible ECUs in our workshop makes this process more accessible for newer BMW models.
Which vehicles are supported
We confirm compatibility by identifying the exact Bosch MG1 or MD1 ECU, its hardware and software versions, and the programming protocol supported by our equipment. Many BMWs built in 2022, 2023 and 2024 are supported. Checking the specific control unit allows us to select the right procedure and agree on the work required.
